A quote can be technically plausible and still be a poor financial comparison. Installers often bundle capital cost, grants, loans, tariffs and performance figures into one headline saving. If you only see “save £800 a year”, you cannot tell whether that depends on a special tariff, an old boiler baseline, or solar savings counted as heating savings.

The question is usually not whether the technology can work. It is whether this quote proves the saving for your home, your tariffs and your alternatives (including doing nothing or replacing the gas boiler).
- Is the saving only there because the quote assumes a special tariff?
- Is the heat pump compared with your old boiler, not a realistic new gas boiler?
- Are solar or battery savings being used to make the heat pump look cheaper?
- Are radiator, pipework, cylinder, electrical work and redecoration in the price?
