How to check a solar and battery quote
System size, shading, export tariff, self-consumption, warranties and itemised costs, in a homeowner checklist.
What to check first
Two quotes with different kWp are not comparable on price alone. Match panel count, inverter, battery kWh, scaffolding, meter work and warranty length first.
Design on the paperwork
- kWp (DC) vs inverter AC limit (clipping affects yield)
- Layout diagram with shading objects
- Warranties: panels, inverter, battery, workmanship
Money side
Gross vs net after any grant you have confirmed. Export tariff name and rate. Import rate used for self-consumption value. Finance APR and term if applicable.
Battery
Usable kWh vs nameplate. Whether savings assume a specific time-of-use product. Cycle warranty and whether replacement cost appears anywhere in your planning horizon.
Claim to check
“Payback in X years” without self-consumption, export rate and finance details behind it. Ask for the spreadsheet logic or written assumptions.
