The hidden costs of heat pump installation

What might be missing from the quote

Emitters: new or larger radiators, fan coils, extra underfloor zones.
Cylinder: size, insulation, how hot water is scheduled.
Pipework: routes through rooms you live in; insulation standard.
Electrics: dedicated circuit, consumer unit upgrade, DNO paperwork if needed.
Controls: weather compensation, zoning, who owns app access.
Making good: plaster, floors, external penetrations.

Some quotes assume your radiators already work at low flow temperature. If they do not, comfort and SCOP suffer, and extra cost appears after survey.

Redecoration and disruption

Even a tidy install may mean chased walls or lifted boards. If making good beyond “safe and tidy” is excluded, budget separately.

Provisional sums

“Electrical works provisional £800” can grow once the board is opened. Ask for a cap or fixed price where possible.
